Akti
Modern Greek dining on Woolloomooloo's Finger Wharf
Akti runs along the Finger Wharf at Woolloomooloo, close enough to the water that the light off the harbour does most of the decorating. Baraki, the small bar beside it, takes anyone who wants a drink before the table is ready or after it has been cleared.
Head Chef Robert Judd cooks Greek: pita made in the kitchen, seafood over the grill, lamb shoulder carried out still smoking, and mezze put down for everyone to pick at. The wine list makes room for Assyrtiko and other Greek whites, and the bar mixes with the same accent.
It is a big room, and it is set up so that a table for two by the glass gets the same attention as a long table down the middle. The private dining room upstairs has soaring ceilings and a wall of ceramic work.
Lunch runs from midday, Wednesday to Sunday. Dinner starts at 6 and finishes at 8.30 midweek, 9 on Saturday and 8 on Sunday. Come at the end of the day if you want the wharf at its best.
